[ # ] Newsweek in America!
September 27th, 2006 under Politics

newsweeknewsweek-2newsweek-3 newsweek-4
Which cover from Newsweek is the American version? Why? Who is to blame?

Are we really this shallow? Unfortunately yes.

Why is the international cover story on Afganistan (see, I can’t even spell it!)? Is it because the world hates us and is glad to see us lose? Is it that the world is more concerned over matters of international import?

Why is the US cover story on a celebrity photographer? Is it because we don’t care about Afghanistan? Is it because we are just so friggin’ shallow?

The covers are different because Newsweek is about selling magazines…not reporting the news. I can’t really blame them can I?

Why do these stories sell abroad and not here? That’s the real question. Either way, the answer is scary!

Howie,
I was just waiting for you to say it…and then you did.
You are right, Newsweek is about selling mags, not reporting the news.
Dave Letterman once asked Dan Rather why the world was so mad at us. I’ll never forget it:
“Is it because we have cable?”
Maybe that’s it.
Nice post.

Funny, I’d be more likely to buy the Afghanistan cover Newsweek than the other one. Then again, I’m a news junkie, and when I see breaking news, I hit Reuters, FOXNews, CNN, ABCNews, CBSNews, BBCNews, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, and occasionally I’ll check out what The Scotsman has to say. (That was my bookmark list.) I used to be big on WorldNetDaily until I learned how to think on my own.
