Why does the “church” have to market itself? Maybe because we don’t do what we are called to do.
I’ve spotted two ridiculous examples of trying to appeal to culture that end up making Christians look stupid. Church @ The Gathering (what an awesome cool far-out groovy name!) mailed out the brochure you see on the left. People receiving the brochure were ticked, but the pastor said he’d do it again. (Be careful when you watch the video—Its opening line is “Red Hot Sex”) Is his church so lame that he has to resort to this kind of crap to get attention? PLEASE!
Then there’s MyNakedPastor.com! God help us! A citizen that received the goofy brochure asked wouldn’t it have been better for the church to give the thousands of dollars it spent on “promotion” to the community? Oh heck no! The church isn’t concerned about the community. It’s only concern is self-promotion.
