June 13th, 2008 under Christianity, Hypocrisy, Church and State, Walking Like Jesus, Baptists, Christian Crap, ChristianWalk

My friend Mark Gstohl has an article at Religion Dispatches Blog about the Southern Baptist resolution on Christmas.

That guy’s not only cool. He’s also pretty smart.

I’m worried about you Howie, and your friend Mark Gstohl. Which one wears women’s clothing, and which one is more like the regular Norman Bates?

I’ve heard Gstohl is a big dork who hangs out with a malaka.

Howie, I think that you are not being completely fair in your continuing war on the SBC. I think that the SBC does far more good than it does bad, by a long shot. I hope that one day you are able to overcome whatever it is that is driving you to such hatred.

Although many, including Mr. Long, have loudly protested the SBC’s decision to not setup a national sex crimes database, the truth is that the database itself would only be window dressing. Much more and better information can be obtained by individual churches during background checks. This should be the focus, IMHO, of efforts to stop such serial abuse, getting churches to understand the problem and the necessity of checks and putting procedures in place to prevent it in the first place.

To this end, you should read this. I think it is a good resource and is featured on the front page of the SBC website.

Is the SBC perfect? Of course not. But they are trying to make a difference in this world through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I wish you peace. Dave

Thanks David.
I agree that Southern Baptists do a lot to advance the Kingdom. Most of my friends and all my enemies are Southern Baptists. However, when any Christian does something that I think is harmful I will speak out. It’s what I do.

I don’t have hatred for Southern Baptists. I just want in my small way to help thinking Christians to be as good a witness as they can be. I’m not the person I should be yet either. So,if you feel I step over a line feel free to let me know. I appreciate your graciousness in dealing with me. I hope to some day, with God’s help, to be more gentle in my rebukes.

grace.
