Mandeville Mayor Not Just Dangerous |

Seems that Mandeville mayor Eddie Price is not just a drunk-driving, above-the-law, knucklehead! The T-P reported today that he’s also one corrupt Son of a Gun!
Thanks Eddie! Now all those northshore folks who like to slam New Orleans for our corrupt politicians have to keep quiet! I’m wondering if Eddie will get re-elected?
BTW–all this started as an investigation into possible corruption of the Christmas toy fund controlled by Police Chief Tom Buell. Holy Crap! Either Santa or Jesus is going to be pissed! Possibly both!

No I’m not talking about Adrastos! In fact, as someone who has been labeled a heretic, I don’t joke about hell. But if anyone deserves to go there it’s Stacey Jackson, former director of NOAH. Lee Zurich and Karen Gadbois have been exposing the corruption in the city-run Non-profit (yeah right!) that has milked the recovery effort and given the city a black eye.
Here’s the real kicker! Christian teenagers have been coming down here for years to gut houses and help our citizens rebuild their lives. The bad part of that is that today’s Times-Picayune article, which has been WAY behind the curve on this thing, informs us that NOAH contractors actually got paid for work that these sweet kids did to make our city a better place.
Holy Crap! Somebody better get on their freakin’ knees right now. As I said above, I don’t take this lightly–but somebody better get ready to fry like a sausage in hell! You *&^%$@’s better be looking for asbestos wetsuits because you’re going to be treading water on the lake of fire for quite some time for this!
Damn. I hope Stacey and the Board of NOAH go to jail for a long time for this.

A few years back, I received this book in the mail from a regular reader of HowieLuvzus.com. He said that he was fan and that he wanted me to read the novel he wrote.
I thought, “Great! I have a groupie!” My wife thought, “Oh great! You have a stalker!”
I re-read the book,
Welcome to the Fallen Paradise
by Dayne Sherman this summer. It’s a very compelling book. It’s about a guy who returns to his small town in South Louisiana after a stint in the Army and it chronicles his run ins with a crazy neighbor and a corrupt Sheriff.
Even though I was afraid it would turn out to be a novel full of cliches and stereotypes, it was very enjoyable. It’s really a fast-moving and sometimes funny work that I simply could not put down.
Thanks Dayne!

Laissez Le Bon Temps Roulet! Except in Terrebonne Parish! |

Bigoted moron and Terrebonne Parish School Board member, Rickie Pitre is leading a charge to make English the only spoken language at graduation ceremonies. Seems that Rickie took offense to Cindy Vo’s comments at Ellender High School’s Graduation. Cindy, the American-born daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, who was the valedictorian had the nerve to say, “Co len minh khong bang ai, co suon khong ai bang minh.” She then explained that the expression, roughly translated, was a command to always be your own person.
Rickie and the School Board are pissed! How dare that girl use anything but English in her speech! Come on cher!
A couple of things.
1. Hey Rickie–Why not change the name of your parish? Terrebonne means “good earth” in FRENCH! God knows we should hate the French! Remember “Freedom Fries”?
2. Hey Rickie–Didn’t your ancestors get flack over their use of French? Can’t you see how that might be a bad thing?
Rickie and his bigoted buddies can be contacted here.

Evolution Alternatives Bill Progress in Louisiana |

From EthicsDaily.com:
Bill Barrow
06-16-08
BATON ROUGE, La. (RNS) The Louisiana House of Representatives has approved a science education bill that one prominent church-state group predicts could yield a lawsuit over teaching religion in public schools.
The bill would allow science teachers, after a request by a local school board and with the approval by state education officials, to use supplemental materials when teaching subjects such as evolution, global warming, cloning and the origin of life.
The House passed the bill in a 94-3 vote on Wednesday and sent it to the state Senate. The bill would then go to Gov. Bobby Jindal, who has publicly expressed his support for teaching alternatives to evolution.
Supporters say the measure will encourage honest discussions about controversial topics, with teachers using the most up-to-date research that sometimes is not included in textbooks.
Read the rest here. Also, rumor has it Mark Gstohl’s article will show up at Ethics Daily soon!

It’s Hard to Stay Sane in New Orleans |

Last night I saw Charles Barkley slam the local, state, and federal recovery of New Orleans. Thanks Charles! For you who are not from here, it’s hard to understand why we stay here and what we are going through. Just look at our idiot mayor above.
Remember my entry about our new ethics reform-minded Governor?
Well look at this from WWLTV:
Even as a special session on ethics called by Governor Bobby Jindal aims to end the practice of free sports and even tickets being given to legislators a report has surfaced that Jindal’s Chief of Staff recently accepted free tickets to the Hannah Montana concert in New Orleans.
WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge reports that Chief of Staff Timmy Teeple and several legislators accepted free tickets for the show, which had sold out to the public in a matter of minutes.
The report says that the tickets were for the governor’s suite inside of the Arena.
Jindal gave a brief response Thursday.
‘Bottom line, we’re gonna follow the law like everybody else. We proposed sweeping changes in the law. We’re saying legislators shouldn’t be getting lavish meals. We’ve said the same things on free tickets from people being able to influence elected or appointed leaders, that’s why we’re going through this session to get the bills done to change the way business is done in Louisiana.”
There is currently nothing illegal about accepting the tickets, though proposed legislation is attempting to have that changed.
I’m gettin’ on my scooter and going to the Quarter to look for tall guys so I can take their pictures!

I’m with Editor B, with so many lies from Bush about how he would take care of the Gulf Coast after Katrina, I can’t trust Bush. Not to mention the WMDs, the cakewalk in Iraq, punishment for the one who “outed” Valerie Plame, etc.

It would be insane to think that a man with no grasp of reality could accurately describe the state of our union and figure out how to fix what’s wrong with it unless the problem is that corporations need a handout and the rich are overtaxed.

Associated Press
BATON ROUGE — Gov. Bobby Jindal will pay a $2,500 fine for violating the state’s campaign finance disclosure laws, rather than wait for a public hearing before the state ethics board to determine if a violation occurred, his spokeswoman said Thursday.
The Louisiana Board of Ethics was looking into whether to fine Jindal for late disclosure of more than $118,000 in campaign aid he received from the state Republican Party when he was running for governor last year.
The board had scheduled a public hearing on the matter for July 10.
But Melissa Sellers, the governor’s press secretary, said Jindal intends to pay the fine rather than dispute it in July.
“We’re going to pay the fine and move on, move forward,” she said.
The issue comes only weeks before Jindal calls lawmakers to the state Capitol for a special legislative session on ethics reform. The governor campaigned on a platform of transparency in government.
Jindal amended his campaign finance report in September after an ethics complaint claimed the Republican candidate should have reported direct mail sent on his behalf by the state GOP as an “in-kind” contribution to his campaign.
Holy Smokes! Say it ain’t so! This can’t be true! Bobby, you campaigned on ethics reform! How could your campaign not be ethical? I’m SO SHOCKED. What’s next? A family values Louisiana Republican found sleeping with a hooker?

This is from my new favorite site. The New Orleans Levee: We Don’t Hold Anything Back!
It’s got great cartoons and very funny articles like:
Community shocked Vick picked to lead N.O. animal group
Mayor C. Ray Nagin’s blue-ribbon committee to choose a successor to outgoing LA-SPCA Director Laura Maloney, who is relocating to Australia with her husband, has picked Michael Vick.
Nagin’s appointees to the committee were Congressman William Jefferson, District Attorney Eddie Jordan, and former Councilman Oliver Thomas. Thomas replaced former school board President Ellenese Brooks-Simms, who was unable to attend due to legal obligations. They made their announcement at a recent fund-raiser for Nagin’s gubernatorial and/or congressional and/or Urban League campaign fund.
“We are excited about our choice for the new Director of the LA-SPCA,” Nagin said. “We are pleased to appoint Michael Vick, former quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.”
Nagin cited Vick’s experience with dog kennels in Virginia, as well as his proven record of interstate networking of animal events.
“Mr. Vick is experienced in animal euthanasia as well as all the legal ramifications of animal care.” Congressman Jefferson added. “And he’s already been sentenced to prison, so that eliminates the need to spend taxpayer dollars on investigations and court costs.”
Oliver Thomas initially had reservations about appointing Vick to the sensitive position, but later sided with his colleagues.
“At first I was reluctant to place a controversial figure in an animal rights position, but then he gave me free game tickets and I reconsidered.”
Great Stuff! Keep up the good work!
